Hong Kong—RBC Wealth Management, part of Royal Bank of Canada has partnered with the China Hockey Group (CHG) to support the RBC Lions, an elite youth ice hockey initiative covering multiple age groups and gender.
The RBC Lions program comprises of carefully selected elite youth hockey players from the U9 to U16 age groups.
The RBC Lions training will begin in September 2022 and run through until April 2023. The teams will practice on a weekly basis at the Discovery Bay Rink, a new ice rink with world-class facilities.
With the support of RBC Wealth Management, the Lions’ teams will prepare the next generation of Hong Kong’s most talented youth ice hockey players by providing competitive game play in the Greater Bay Hockey League (GBHL), combined with high tempo practices and regional competitive tournament opportunities.
The RBC Lions U16 players will benefit from mentorship by adult elite players and coaches as the squad plays rotational games in the South China Ice Hockey League (SCIHL) and the China Ice Hockey League (CIHL) adult leagues. The CIHL was first launched in 2011 as Hong Kong’s first elite, full-contact ice hockey league and over the past decade has remained the city’s best league with top talents, including those who played varsity hockey at Canadian and American universities, competing in the league.
Co-Founder and Executive Director of the China Hockey Group Gregory Smyth stated:
“We are excited to have RBC as a partner for the Lions initiative. With the growing popularity of ice hockey in Southern China, this will amplify the development and skills of local youth ice hockey players.”
Terence Chow, Head, RBC Wealth Management – Asia added:
“As part of our purpose to help clients thrive and communities prosper, RBC supports initiatives that help young people realise their full potential, so we are thrilled to be partnering with New Lions elite ice hockey teams and contributing to the journey of these talented youth players.”
